When I walk into a pediatric hospital I feel like I am coming home. Pediatric hospitals are centers of hope and healing, and children tend to bring out the best attributes in adults. I am inspired by pediatric medicine because it has a clear purpose; children should not be sick, they should be playing. I truly cannot imagine practicing any other type of medicine.
I practice pediatric medicine as a critical care physician in a pediatric intensive care unit (PICU). When I am not caring for patients in the PICU, I am actively engaged in research focused on understanding and modulating the immunology of critical illness. This has led me to focus my research on HLH and sepsis: two disease processes of critical illness due in part to hyperinflammation. I consider myself very lucky; I immensely enjoy both the clinical and research aspects of my academic career.
Outside of the hospital I enjoy biking, hiking, and skiing with the family. My newest hobby is reading and learning about astronomy, astrophotography, and astrophysics.
